What does the brake fluid do?

Understanding the Importance of Brake Fluid
Brake fluid plays a critical role in the operation of the vehicle in the braking system. When you press the brake pedal brake fluid travels through the houses and lines to the calipers and wheel cylinders. This applies pressures to the brake pad and or shoes causing them to make contact with the rotors and or drums. The pressure sent to the brake pad and the squeezing onto the rotor creates a lot of heat. The heat will cause the brake fluid to break down over time. After the fluid breaks down it could lead to longer braking distances. Also, brake fluid becomes acidic. After long periods, the fluid could cause rusting and corrosion in important components. These include the brake calipers, wheel seals, and brake lines. Brake fluid is vital to the vehicle's braking system and keeping your vehicle safe. We recommend you exchange your brake fluid every two to three years or every 30,000 to 40,000 miles. Stop by our shop in Martinsville, VA
